Restaurants

Dining out in Lake County is far more varied than you might expect. There is the “down-home” American fare; Italian food and pizza; Irish, Mexican, Mediterranean, Thai, and Chinese repast; upscale and highly acclaimed restaurants such as The Sawmill in Kelseyville and Boar’s Breath in Middletown. There are coffee shops and ice cream parlors. There is, of course, fast food. And there are the Tasting Rooms at many of Lake County’s fine wineries, located all across the county. In other words, you’ll always have plenty of options when you want to go out to eat. For the wine aficionado, the Lake County Wine Studio (LCWS), located in historic Upper Lake just across the street from the restored Tallman Hotel, offers a true taste of Lake County wine country. Hard-to-find artisan wines from over 35 select local producers are available for tasting and sale.

Shopping

Around the Lake, there are many locally owned businesses that showcase local artists, and regional foods and gifts. Each city offers something different and unique to the shopper, both for their own needs and for finding that perfect gift. Everything from vintage jewelry, beading supplies and antiques, to movies, books, tools, collectibles, and clothing, is available. The Lake County Chamber of Commerce has a program, “Shop, Stay and Play,” (http://www.shopstayplay.com) that provides a listing of all the county businesses, encouraging residents and visitors alike to buy locally and support the local economy. If you want variety as well as a great deal, Lake County has several thrift shops. The Hospice Thrift Shops in both Clearlake and Lakeport offer a wide selection of items at the lowest prices imaginable. The Goodwill Store in Lakeport is another of the many shops where variety meets savings.
